Week 3 Story: Peeping Toms

Beth is every guy's dream. She is head cheerleader, with long, thick black hair, and glowing dark skin. While many pursue her, she is confident and knows she deserves a prince some day.

Luckily for Beth, the starting quarterback, Henry, is just that guy. He has sparkling blue eyes and is the most sought after boy in school. They stumbled upon each other, as most head cheerleaders and starting quarterbacks do in high school. They were perfect. Henry showered her with surprise flowers in her locker and the most expensive bath soaps in the whole Austin area.

Unfortunately, not all men were like Henry. Specifically, two 25 year-old hometown heroes. They hung out at the local bars and hit on every younger girl they could find. The high school girls were specifically told to watch out for them, their intentions were far less than honorable. Little did Beth know, she was the focus of their current perverted fixation.

The hometown heroes decided a plan. They had been watching Beth for a couple weeks, figuring out her schedule. They followed her home from school one day, knowing she had to get ready for that night's football game. When Beth was in the kitchen making a fruit bowl, they snuck in her bedroom and hid in her closet. Beth was changing into her cheer uniform when the two men surprised her!

They appeared out of the closet, threatening Beth. They said they expected her to add them on snapchat, send them each 5 scandalous pictures, or they would tell Henry that she had been spotted at a college party with Texas' despised quarterback, Sam Ehlinger. Beth countered, she said you can tell Henry that, but he will not believe you. She loved Henry with all her heart, and he knew that.

The next day, the rumor was out. But Henry told Beth he had a plan to shut down the hallway talk. See, Beth had a Ring security system. It had caught the men creeping in and even caught some of the audio since the creeps had left the window open.

Beth was exonerated from the reputation ruining rumors, and the two hometown heroes were put to rest in the county jail with a sex offender label for life.

Author's Note: This story is based off of Bathsheba and Susannah's stories from the Bible Women readings. It has similar aspects to Susannah, in that their are two creepy men, Susannah had a loyal husband, and that she was sentenced to death for her rumor. Bathsheba was also watched and stalked without her permission. This story is set in a modern day high school, and is not as horrific as the stories of Bathsheba and Susannah.

  1. Hi!
I loved the twist on this story and how it was modernized! I really liked how Beth stood up for herself and shut down those rumors because they honestly could be extremely dangerous to her and her mental health. I would love to know what inspired you to create this kind of twist with a modernized feel and if you looked into it any more than just a spin off of some of the Bible Women readings? I really like it!

  2. I'm gonna be totally honest, I had no idea where this story was going so it totally captured me! The starting quarterback and cheer captain stereotypes were spot on, and the story was really well written! After reading the notes, I can totally see the parallel between the Bible stories, but I guess the punishment of a rumor getting spread around is a little less damaging than being threatened to be put to death! I wonder what would have happened if she did not have the Ring system, would Henry have believed her? I hope so. This was a great twist on the stories you referenced and I am glad everything worked out for Beth in the end! I look forward to reading more of your stories as the semester continues and think you did a great job, especially with the quick diss on Sam Ehlinger when you called him "despised".
