Reading Notes: Turkish Fairy Tales Part B

 

Patience-Stone and Patience-Knife: A maiden is visited by a bird who tells her that her fate lies with a dead man. The maiden and her mom become terrified and basically become recluses. Some girls ask the maiden to play one day and her mom finally lets her. The maiden gets into danger and finds a hidden door which leads her to a male version of sleeping beauty. The maiden asks a random girl to fan the dude while she washes up. The dude wakes while she is washing, so the girl takes him as her own and insists that the maiden is a servant. The maiden, who the prince guy thinks is a servant, asks for a stone and knife. The prince retrieves it. The maiden writes the whole story on the stone and the stone splits and then she wants to stab herself. The prince guy stops her. They kill the random girl. Happy ever after!

The Imp of the Well: A man was in a horribly toxic relationship with his wife. She was super controlling. She followed him one day and fell down a well. The man went to get he rout the next day but instead pulled out an imp. He gave the man 3 leaves and thanked him for saving him. He said he would heal the Sultan's daughter with those leaves and be rewarded. He did and they got married. The Sultan then ordered him to heal a princess with the same ailment. He did by scaring the imp out of her. The end.

The Soothsayer: An old couple did well enough to have what they needed. The wife was jealous of another lady's good fortune. She told her husband he needs to study to be a soothsayer. He said I work so much, I can't. She threatened to leave him if he did not. He pulled off faking that he knew where all things were and "discovered" the rich lady's ring. Now he was known the be wise and was request to find another lady's ring, or else. And by or else I mean he will be decapitated. The servant who stole the ring fesses up to the old man so they devise a plan. It works, he is now a soothsayer. Wow, he did that for his sucky wife? She was a jerk.

The Wizard and his Pupil: A young boy hated school. His mother took him to a market where he decided he wanted to be the wizard's student, that was arranged. By tricking people, the wizard makes lots of money. The boy wants to try that himself. He instructed his mother to sell him as a transformed bathing establishment, but to keep the key as otherwise he would be lost. His mother was coerced into selling the wizard the establishment and the key, as the wizard knew this trick. The boy transforms into a rose to save himself. The wizard request the rose from the important man who found it or he will kill himself. After many transformations, the young boys is able to kill his chicken form wizard master. His mom and him live happily ever after in the care of the Padishah.

The Liver: A girl's mom asks for liver. The girl has to go through many steps with many people to retrieve the liver back from a bird whole stole it. After completing all the people's tasks, she gets the liver back. Her and her mom eat it. 

Madjun: There is a bald guy. Nobody likes him cause he is bald. He says Madjun per a Dervish's instructions. Things get better for him.

Kunterbunt: It's basically a guy's nightmare. Could be fun to make more interesting and retell.
